2 kids from metro Atlanta participating in the 96th Scripps National Spelling Bee

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Two youngsters from Tucker will have the chance to battle it out for the title of best speller.

Matthew Baber, 14, and Sarv Dharavane, 10, are among more than 200 spellers participating in the 96th Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Baber is an eighth-grader at Rising Starr Middle School in Fayetteville and Dharavane is a fourth-grader at Austin Elementary School in Dunwoody.

Baber previously competed in the Scripps spelling bee, tying for 57th place in 2023.

The Spellers will compete for the Scripps Cup, a $50,000 cash prize and a medal, among other prizes. There are four segments in the competition. The preliminaries will take place on Tuesday, the quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place on Wednesday and the finals will take place on Thursday.
