Storms cause metro Atlanta power outages, airport delays

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch across middle Georgia into South Carolina until 2 p.m.

The Federal Aviation Administration imposed a ground stop on all flights for about two hours Monday after severe thunderstorm warnings were issued across the area, before issuing a departure delay warning of about 30 minutes for flights.

The ground stoppage has delayed hundreds of flights as the airport sees record passenger numbers over Memorial Day weekend.

Georgia Power is reporting power outages throughout northwest Georgia into the Atlanta metro area, affecting hundreds of customers. No time frame was provided regarding a possible restoration of power.
