Liam Egan of South Roscommon and his friend Evan Glynn were robbed at gunpoint in Buffalo, New York on Sunday, May 19.

They had been in America for less than a week after moving there to attend Canisius University and work at the Banshee Irish Pub.

Liam and Evan appeared on WIVB News 4, Buffalo’s local news channel and Liam said they were ordering an Uber when a man approached them, turned around with a gun and held it against their heads.

The Roscommon man added: “When we looked at the footage he was clearly not following us. He saw us as an easy target. They’re just easy targets.

The ordeal was captured on surveillance video taken outside the Banshee Irish Pub around 4:45 a.m. Liam and Evan didn’t have any cash on them but the thief managed to steal one of their iPhones.

Banshee Irish Pub co-owner Conor Hawkins said he was glad the two men were not injured, but he was concerned it could happen elsewhere in downtown Buffalo.

“Downtown Buffalo has had bad apples for three or four years. I mean, business hasn’t been good here because people were afraid of being harassed. There are too many beggars on the streets.

Buffalo police are investigating the theft as well as similar incidents in and around the area at the time to see if they are related.
