Dylan Tarbi remembered after deadly Buffalo Township attack

Tributes are pouring in for 13-year-old Dylan Tarbi. Everyone remembers Tarbi, his boxing coach; the owner of a candy store he frequented; and his school district, who called him a wonderful, handsome young man. It was Friday evening, shortly before 7 p.m., when Dylan Tarbi and a friend were riding together on separate bikes on Cole Road when a pickup truck hit them both. Dylan was airlifted to Children’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The name of the other boy has not yet been released, but we do know he was slightly injured. Today, a community comes together to remember the type of kid Dylan was, including his boxing coach. “He always had a smile on his face and he was very polite. One thing that always stood out to me was how polite he was. He was that kid in the gym that we were lucky to have,” said said his coach, Rich. Cantoline. Coach Rich says he hopes to plant a memorial garden outside the gym in Dylan’s memory, but a keepsake of Dylan will also be inside. “We’re going to keep his record here forever. We’ll put it on a plaque and it will hang on the wall. He’ll be with a lot of people in spirit, and I hope his parents know how proud they should be. is that they raised one heck of a kid,” Cantolina said. And Dylan’s impact didn’t stop there. The owner of Cozmic Candy Shop now says there’s a part of him and his shop that wouldn’t seem complete without Dylan. “We opened in October 2022, and he didn’t find us long after we opened. And he’s a loyal customer. He’s part of our candy family, and we’re really going to miss him. He won’t be forgotten ” said owner Robert Wyant. It was Cozmic Candy Shop that the boys were leaving when the accident happened. The owner says he remembers talking with the boys before the accident and how excited they were to buy their candy for the long weekend. Wyant also says he hopes the other boy who was riding his bike with Dylan on Friday will be back in the store soon. The school district says that although Monday is a holiday, counseling hours will be available for students between 9 a.m. and noon at Freeport Area Middle School.
