Another player who signed a reserve/futures contract shortly after the end of the 2023 season was running back Darrynton Evans. At the time, the Bills weren’t sure what the position would look like since James Cook was the only running back under contract for the upcoming season.

Since then, Damien Harris has retired from the NFL while Latavius Murray has not been re-signed. The Bills would bring back Ty Johnson on a one-year deal and the veteran would have a chance to maintain his role as Cook’s backup.

In addition to Johnson, the Bills would draft Ray Davis in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and then sign undrafted free agent Frank Gore Jr. to give the team five running backs on the roster.

However, if Davis and Gore impress the coaching staff during OTAs, it wouldn’t be surprising if Evans is released before training camp in order to give the young running backs more reps during practice.
