Man arrested after fight outside library

BUFFALO – Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia announces the arrest of Jacob Schneider, 38, of Buffalo after a fight on the railing in front of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Central Library.

On Friday, May 24 around 3:15 p.m., a patrol was dispatched to the area for a fight in progress. Upon arrival, officers saw a man walking away from the scene while shouting towards the area of ​​the incident. Witnesses pointed out the subject and indicated to the patrol that he was involved in the altercation. The man ignored orders to stop and led deputies on a foot chase across Washington Street, then north on Main Street. He was arrested and brought back to the scene for further investigation. Meanwhile, the victim – who was bleeding from the head – was treated by security and AMR.

The investigation revealed that Schneider confronted the victim, searched him and removed two (2) $20 bills from his pocket. Schneider then punched the victim several times. The victim did not fight back. Security broke up the fight moments later. The victim was transported to Buffalo General Medical Center for treatment. Schneider was accused of:

  • 3rd degree theft
  • 3rd degree assault
  • Resisting arrest

Schneider was transported to the Erie County Detention Center to await arraignment. The victim was subsequently arrested on a warrant issued by the State of Pennsylvania.
