Houston Texans QB CJ Stroud shows signs of increased confidence in OTAs

CJ Stroud is already adding to his list of highlights in his second season leading the Houston Texans. On Tuesday morning, Stroud threw a no-look pass to running back Joe Mixon during an 11-on-11 game at the Houston Methodist Training Center.

Although this impressive effort took place during the early stages of the Texans’ Organized Team Activities (OTAs), the highlight is a testament to why Stroud is considered one of the league’s best players heading into the season 2024.

The chance to continue playing and working alongside Stroud is one of the many reasons tight end Dalton Schultz re-signed with the Texans as a free agent in March. During their second season as teammates, Schultz noticed a renewed confidence in Stroud’s leadership and on-field production.

“CJ has already done a great job,” Schultz said. “Just with the command of the group, he’s definitely become more comfortable. He’s taken the next step in being that vocal guy, that vocal leader that quarterbacks in the league need to be.”

Last season, Stroud led the Texans to a 10-7 regular season record, the franchise’s most wins since 2019.

He finished his rookie season with 4,557 total passing yards, including the playoffs, which is the second-most passing yards in NFL history by a rookie quarterback – behind Andrew Luck (4,662) in 2012. He won Offensive Rookie of the Year while being nominated. to his first Pro Bowl selection.
