Starting from the rail after notching a convincing five-length victory in the same ranking last week, Poets N Pirates (Jim Morrill Jr.) allowed Stars An Stones (Joseph Chindano Jr.) to take an early lead but quickly managed to regain the upper hand. .

With fractions of:30.1, 1:01.1 and 1:31.3. Poets N Pirates’ main concern down the lane only seemed to be Stars An Stones, sitting in the pocket. Those concerns were realized late on when Stars An Stones made a valiant effort approaching the finish line, but only missed by a neck. Hellrider (David McNeight III) has taken the show job.

Owned by Michael Torcello and trained by Samuel Smith, it was the third victory in 16 starts this season for the 6-year-old gelding Poets N Pirates (Spring Goal-Kandy’s Lo). The win brought his 2024 earnings to $26,684 and $187,808 lifetime.

The second week of the Spring Up Series continued with once again non-winning $12,500 trotters ($15,000 mares) having at least 10 starts during the year. In the $11,000 premier division, Heavens Fury ($8.80) was victorious as John Cummings Jr. rode the 4-year-old mare to a one-length victory over Gemini Eddie in 1:59.2.

It was an incredible effort from Caviar’s Yankee ($7.50) in the second division as the 6-year-old gelding was parked the entire mile but still managed to beat Retha Babe by a head in 1:59 ,2. Piloted by Morrill Jr., it was the second consecutive Spring Up Series triumph for Caviar’s Yankee.

It was a great afternoon for Morrill Jr. as he brought home four winners while Cummings Jr. doubled. Trainer Andrew Torre has two victories in training.

The races will resume on Saturday May 25 evening at 6 p.m. with a program of 11 races.
