BOSSIP can exclusively report that Family empire: Houston, a new series about the multi-generational Braden family of Houston, Texas premieres on Friday, June 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on OWN.

We can also confirm that it’s an 8-episode unscripted series that follows the Bradens through four generations of Black excellence and “explores the complex themes of generational wealth and building a legacy.” family”.

In particular, the show produced by Carlos King’s Kingdom Reign Entertainment features “cousin sisters” Nicole, Jermeshia and JaQuita who collectively dream of following in the footsteps of their beloved grandmother and Braden family matriarch , Oscarene., a real estate entrepreneur who built the family empire from the ground up and “passed on that courage and determination to her children and grandchildren.”

A press release reports that the ladies are real estate agents, entrepreneurs and “dream home seekers extraordinaire” with a pulse on metro Houston’s booming real estate market.

“Their core mission and vision is to empower communities and ensure wealth for generations to come, and they also dream of further developing valuable commercial land that has been in the Braden family for decades, affirming the family legacy in the Houston area,” an official synopsis reads. “But complications arise for the grandchildren as Oscarene considers dissolving family assets in order to secure the financial future of her five children – Frank Jr., Charlotte, Cheryl, Nikki and Jackie.”

Tina Perry, president of OWN, is particularly excited about the series and released a statement saying:

“At OWN, we’re always looking to spotlight interesting people with stories that are entertaining and also reflect our audience,” Perry said. “Family Empire: Houston promises all of this and more: a vibrant family, vibrant culture, and high-stakes storylines that we know our audiences will respond to.

The first season will feature them dealing with skeletons in the closet, including a separation, complications related to Oscarene’s plan to pass on the family wealth, single motherhood and much more. Despite the drama, the group still manages to find a way to make amends.

The trailer shows the group celebrating being the largest independent, Black-owned brokerage in H-Town and gives viewers a glimpse into the “crazy” and “messy” family.

It also introduces the family matriarch, Oscarene, who acquired real estate with her husband Frank and set the family up for success. Questions now arise about who she will pass her legacy on to.

“Grandma is going to do what Grandma wants to do,” Nicole says of Oscarene.

Oscarene Braden is a model of pioneering spirit, embodying the resilience and entrepreneurial dynamism of her time. Born in 1937 in Natchitoches Parish, Los Angeles, Oscarene was adopted as an infant and raised in Houston, Texas. Oscarene found her lifelong partner in Frank Braden, a kindred spirit also from Natchitoches Parish. They raised a close-knit, loving family with a foundation built on their devotion and love for God. Together, they also built a portfolio of diverse businesses in the Houston area, ranging from a lawn care company to a fish market, banquet halls and beauty salons, rental properties and a daycare. As a pioneer of her time, Oscarene has built a legacy that will endure for generations to come.
