Chase Claypool wants to leave his ‘baggage’ behind with the Buffalo Bills

Chase Claypool sees an opportunity with the Buffalo Bills and to seize it, he forgets the past.

Claypool, 25, signed with the Bills after the 2024 NFL Draft. He spent the first two years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

During his rookie season, Claypool totaled a career-high 11 touchdowns with 62 receptions for 873 yards, but he has been looking to return to that form ever since. Last year with the Miami Dolphins, he was just a depth piece.

In Buffalo, he sees a chance for redemption.

“It’s just about making the best of your situation and loving what you do. If I didn’t like the game, then it would be easy to fold,” Claypool said.

It’s very early for Claypool in Buffalo. But it received positive reviews from OTAs last week. Including from his new coach, Sean McDermott.

“He’s on a mission right now to reclaim what he once was,” McDermott said via video conference. “And these are my words… I will just say he is very impressed with his daily approach, a real pro, high character, intelligent player, and he has been a good addition to our team.”

What helped Claypool, according to the player himself, was putting that disappointing season or two behind him.

“I don’t come with any baggage from the outside world,” he said. “I’m not here to prove that I’m not what people say I am. I’m just here to be who I am and be part of the team.

With the openings around the Bills locker room this offseason, particularly in the receivers room, Claypool has a chance to continue to establish himself in the NFL again.
