Houston ISD students return to school despite 12 campuses still under repair following deadly windstorm

HOUSTON – Houston ISD plans for all students to return to class today after several schools had to cancel classes throughout the week due to severe damage from windstorms.

According to an email sent by the district, approximately 12 campuses are still undergoing repairs, so for now, students at those sites will attend school at another campus. However, students will continue to be taught by faculty and staff at their home campus.

The district also says principals at closed campuses will notify families directly about plans for children’s return to class. Here is the overall plan, as dictated in the email:

• Students will always be dropped off and picked up at their home campus. HISD will manage all transportation for students who will be served at another campus this week.

• Students will continue to be taught and supported by faculty and staff at their home campus.

• Principals will communicate directly with families on affected campuses. HISD Central Office will not send additional lists of closed campuses.

However, if your child’s campus is already open, school will operate as usual.
