UB School of Nursing Dean Speaks About U.S. Nursing Shortage

The nursing profession faces multiple challenges.

Inadequate nursing staffing contributes to burnout, leading to fewer nurses. Additionally, there is a shortage of faculty capable of teaching nursing to students.

In 2021, more than 91,000 qualified applicants to bachelor’s and graduate nursing programs were turned away due to this faculty shortage. And the timing couldn’t be worse: The United States has more Americans over 65 than at any other time in history. More people in need, but fewer people to care for them.

Annette Wysocki, dean of the University at Buffalo School of Nursing, discussed these challenges with Capital tonight host Susan Arbetter.
