Houston Pride Festival will feature K. Michelle and David Archuleta

Pride Houston has announced R&B and country singer K. Michelle and “American Idol” star David Archuleta as entertainment for this year’s festival.

Billed as “a celebration of diversity, resilience and artistic genius,” the 46th annual parade and festival will take place June 29 at City Hall in downtown Houston. Last year, organizers held a parade but skipped the festival due to rising security, marketing and insurance costs; COVID-19 fallout and dangerous daytime heat.

K. Michelle first made her mark as a reality TV star on “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” before turning her attention to music. Her debut album “Rebellious Soul” was released in 2013. Last year, “I’m the Problem” was marketed as her latest R&B album. She is currently working on a country music project and previewed it with the single “Tennessee.”

Archuleta competed on “American Idol” in 2008, finishing in second place. He has since come out as gay and is living his best life, as told on Instagram. Archuleta candidly discussed his “crisis of faith” with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly known as the Mormon Church. He left the church in 2022. His current single “Hell Again” details the emotional journey with his family. This month, he was named Outstanding Breakthrough Musical Artist at the GLAAD Media Awards.

Pride Houston’s lineup also includes queer country singer Brooke Eden and Houston artist Kayla G. Admission to the festival is free, but there are also paid options.

Houston’s New Faces of Pride, a separate organization, will hold a similar parade and festival downtown on June 22, a week earlier. Artists and details have not yet been announced.
