Help honor those who have sacrificed in ceremonies and tributes throughout the city, then find more celebrations and family fun in Houston through Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2024.

In communities across the Greater Houston area, annual Memorial Day ceremonies will bring people together to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

We’ve rounded up some of the notable tributes taking place on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, but scroll down if you’re looking for other ways to spend the long weekend at outdoor markets, shore parties swimming pool and other places to enjoy the four-day.

Memorial Day Events in Greater Houston

  • Memorial Walk at Memorial Park | Saturday May 25 | FREE – Honor those who sacrificed everything with a memorial march in Eastern Glades. A memorial banner will also provide an opportunity to sign your loved one’s name before participating in the Seymour Lieberman trial. 7 a.m. to noon.
  • An Unforgettable Night at Sugar Land Town Square | Sunday May 26 | FREE – This annual Memorial Day event in Sugar Land honors the military with a concert of patriotic songs, dances and performances, as well as speeches from veterans. 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Memorial Day in the Woods at Town Center Park | Sunday May 26 | FREE – Kick off summer with this annual patriotic celebration that honors the military service of those who have sacrificed the most for the United States. This evening of celebration includes a commemorative ceremony, live music, activities for children, wandering entertainment and a fireworks show. 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Memorial Day Ceremony at Houston National Cemetery | Monday May 27 | FREE – Join city officials and dignitaries for a solemn event at the Houston National Cemetery, where those gathered will remember those who have sacrificed the most in the armed forces. 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Galveston Naval Museum Memorial Day Ceremony and Museum Admission | Monday May 27 | FREE – Among historic ships, this annual ceremony includes a speech recognizing fallen service members, as well as live music, refreshments and free museum admission until 11 a.m. 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Memorial Day Celebration at the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum | Monday May 27 | FREE – Guests at this annual celebration in the Museum District can explore the African American military experience by participating in interactive exhibits and discovering special resources for veterans and their families. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Memorial Day Ceremony at Sugar Land Memorial Park | Monday May 27 | FREE – Pay tribute to fallen service members during this ceremony in Fort Bend that includes a patriotic musical presentation by the Lone Star Symphony, words of remembrance, a military flyover and a flag ceremony. 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Memorial Day Weekend Parties and Other Events

The whole weekend

  • Comicpalooza at the George R. Brown Convention Center | From Friday to Sunday – Don your favorite hero costume and head downtown for a weekend of cosplay, autographs, and pop culture. Enjoy family-friendly activities, listen to live panel discussions, shop from local creators, browse pop culture memorabilia and much more. Day passes range from $43 to $64, depending on the day; weekend passes start at $90. Hours vary.
  • Memorial Day Weekend at the Lone Star Flight Museum | From Saturday to Monday – On weekends, you can head to the Lone Star Flight Museum for a day of fun for little ones on Saturday, plus a special focus on Vietnam Veterans, Paper Airplane Day on Sunday and a Memorial Day with children’s games, spaceships and more. $18; $15 for ages 12 to 17 and 65 and over; $12 for ages 5 to 11; free for ages 4 and under. Hours vary.
  • Memorial Day Weekend at the Marriott Marquis Houston | From Saturday to Monday – Throughout the weekend, you can join the party on the iconic Texas-shaped lazy river atop the sixth floor of the Downtown Mariott Marquis. DJs will be on hand to set the mood and you can enjoy some sips, sun, and Memorial Day fun with scenic views. Day passes are available for non-guests at $90 and up. From noon to 9 p.m.

Saturday May 25, 2024

  • Downtown Market Square Park Farmers Market | FREE – Shop for fresh produce, baked goods, artisan goods and more in the heart of downtown at this market that brings together vendors from across the Bayou City region. Family- and pet-friendly, the market also features live music from local artists on the Turnip the Beet stage. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Market in the garden of the B-52 brewery | No coverage – This unique market brings together a selection of artisan vendors in the shade of the imposing trees of the Conroe Brewery. Browse artisanal products while sipping suds straight from the tap. From noon to 5 p.m.
  • Crawfest 2024 at Redemption Square | FREE – Spice up your weekend with a stop in northeast Houston for a burst of Cajun flavors with authentic Louisiana crawfish, jambalaya and boudin. It’s a busy day with vendors, bubble parties, and live music. 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Summer Strand Series: Vallejo in Concert at Saengerfest Park | FREE – Welcome summer at The Strand in Galveston with live classic rock, funky beats and Vallejo Latin beats. Soak up the island vibe with craft beer, wine, and food truck delights available for purchase. 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Captain America Film screening at Sugar Land Town Square | FREE – The 2011 Marvel hit is screened outdoors in Sugar Land, to celebrate Memorial Day. 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Sunday May 26, 2024

  • ARMNHMR DJ Set at Clé Day & Night – The Los Angeles-based duo hits the decks poolside for a Memorial Day pool party in Midtown. Phon, Wes Walz and others help set the mood. 21 years and over. $15. 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Memorial Day Sunday at Bauhaus Houston – A 12-hour marathon will keep the pace going late into the night at this Memorial Day party at the downtown EDM club. Expect Massano and a face-off with Technasia and Hector Couto to cap off a day filled with immense vibes. $30 and up. 4 p.m. until late.
  • Jazzy Sundays: Cécile McLorin Salvant in concert at Discovery Green | FREE – Lose yourself in the passionate music of the award-winning jazz artist who bridges musical genres during another edition of Jazzy Sundays in Downtown. 5 p.m.
  • Memorial Sunday Day Party at Z on the 23rd | No coverage – Party the long weekend with stunning views of the skyscrapers at this downtown rooftop bar. 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
  • Lit Sunday: All White Party in Noto Houston – East End nightclub is throwing a Sunday night party with an all-white dress code to ring in the last day of the long holiday weekend. RSVP for free entry until midnight. Coverage may apply without RSVP. 10 p.m. until late.

Memorial Day, Monday May 27, 2024

  • Memorial Day 5K/10K at St. Thomas High School – Houston Running Co. hosts this annual race that includes 5K, 10K and Kids K lengths, running down Memorial Drive and back. $55 and up; $30 for children K. 7:30 a.m.
  • Supa Soca Memorial Day Pool & Day Party at Encore – Grab your best swimsuit and partygoers to join the biggest Afro-Caribbean pool party of the summer in Midtown. Free entry until 4 p.m.; $10 and more after that. 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Latin House Pool Party at Space Cowboy – The Heights House Hotel Pool Bar celebrates Memorial Day in style. Come enjoy a full day of Latin house music performed by a team of DJs, plus food and drink specials, vendors, mermaids in the pool and much more. $15 and up. 2 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
