Man dead after going missing in Arizona lake

BARLETT LAKE, AZ (AZFamily) – A man was found dead after going missing over the weekend at Bartlett Lake north of Scottsdale.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said 46-year-old Richard Myers was reported missing by a friend Saturday evening after he had not been seen for four hours.

Deputies said Myers was last seen in the Bartlett Flats area, walking between campsites. He was last seen walking along the water in the plains.

Authorities searched the area but were unable to find Myers.

MCSO deputies returned to the area Sunday and discovered three anomalies while examining the lake using sonar. They managed to recover the body, identified as Myers.

Myers had scratches on his ears and redness on his eye, officials said. MCSO also said it appeared Myers was walking along a rock formation at the waterline and may have fallen, hitting his head as he went into the water.

This case remains under investigation. Officers said foul play is not suspected and alcohol may be a factor.
