Is Buffalo Wild Wings really opening a location in Augusta, Maine?

In this economy and in this rural part of old Maine, we are no strangers to seeing businesses come and go. However, I would say that the number of businesses coming and going to this area has been increasing since COVID.

Our studio location is a great example of this. We work at Augusta Plaza on Western Avenue here in Augusta. You know, “where K Mart used to be.” And it appears at least that only a few of the original companies remain. In the studios, the laundromat and Wendy’s.

The same can be said for many other commercial locations around Augusta. Don’t even get me started on the Turnpike Mall. Can you still consider this a “mall”? Probably not.

Anyway, I’m digressing a bit here. If you haven’t heard the rumors on social media, it looks like a popular restaurant is headed to Maine’s capital.

In several threads in the city of Augusta, it is reported that the former Amato location (which was formerly a Dunkin’) is about to become a Buffalo Wild Wings.

As you might imagine, at least to those familiar with the old Amato’s, the building and adjacent land don’t really seem suited to what would traditionally be a very large restaurant. Frankly, there isn’t enough room.

Once again, we turn to the rumor mill which, at least at this point, is speculating that B Dubs’ new location will be takeout only. And, if true, it fits with the current business model that Buffalo Wild Wings has implemented across the country.

According to an article published by RestaurantDive.Com,

  • Buffalo Wild Wings opened the 100th unit of its off-premises model, dubbed Buffalo Wild Wings Go, in New York this week, the company announced in a press release.
  • The company has signed commitments for an additional 600 BWW Go locations, 85% of which are from existing Inspire Brands franchisees.
  • Buffalo Wild Wings has more than 1,300 sports bars now using the BWW Go brand for their takeout and delivery orders, but it plans to reach 150 standalone BWW Go locations by the end of this year.

So while we can’t confirm on their website or city license if this location is truly going to become a Buffalo Wild Wings Go location, I tend to believe it’s probably based on the large number of people online who have heard of it.

Needless to say, we’re pretty excited!
