Houston area school district Liberty ISD closed until Monday

Houston area school district Liberty ISD closed until Monday

The school previously canceled school Monday and Tuesday following flooding and the closure of the Trinity River Bridge along Highway 90.

Liberty ISD schools will resume operations on Monday, May 13.

“Due to the TxDOT closure of Highway 90 at the Trinity River Bridge and the significant and ongoing challenges facing our school community and families, Liberty ISD will be closed for the remainder of this school week. For now , we plan to reopen on Monday, May 13,” reads a message on the district’s website.

The bridge was closed Monday by the Texas Department of Transportation as a precaution. After the school district was alerted to the closure, it announced that all campuses would be closed because there would not be enough staff available to operate the schools.

The Southeast Texas region experienced significant flooding late last week and over the weekend, which extended into Monday due to excessive rainfall in the area.

The Harris County Flood Control District reports 11.48 inches of rain fell at the 1960 Luce Bayou site on State Highway 32 in Liberty County over the past seven days.
