GAME PREVIEW: The Houston Dash close out a two-game streak at Shell Energy Stadium against the defending NWSL champions

HOUSTON (May 7, 2024) – THE*Houston Dash*return to Shell Energy Stadium on Wednesday, May 8 to host defending NWSL champion NJ/NY Gotham FC at 7 p.m. CT.

The Dash look to build on their draw against the Kansas City Current on Sunday night. The Dash trailed going into the locker room at halftime, but secured a share of the points after Amanda West’s first NWSL goal. The rookie forward was well placed to capitalize on a loose ball after Barbara Olivieri forced a turnover inside the box.

Dash goalie Jane Campbell finished Sunday with 12 saves, tying the league record for most saves in a single game. It was only the second time Kansas City was held to one goal or less this season. Campbell leads the league with 40 saves in seven games, almost twice as many as the next goalkeeper, Lysianne Proulx of Bay FC.

This was the second time this season that Houston got a result from a losing position this season. The team gained four points after being behind in one match. Only two teams have collected more points this season, the Kansas City Current (six points) and the Washington Spirit (six points).

Gotham beat the North Carolina Courage this weekend and are undefeated in their last two games. Gotham opened the season with a 1–0 road win over Portland Thorns FC, their only away win this season. Wednesday’s game is the first of a two-game road trip for the defending champions who close out the week in San Diego.

Houston won the series in 2023 after a tie at Shell Energy Stadium on June 11, 2023 and a 2-0 road victory last October. Michelle Alozie scored twice in the victory at Red Bull Arena and Jane Campbell registered her eighth clean sheet of the season.

The Dash will close out the week in California as they travel to Los Angeles to take on Angel City FC on Sunday, May 13 at BMO Stadium. The team returns to Shell Energy Stadium on Friday, May 17 to host the Portland Thorns. The May 17 game is the first of two Pups at the Pitch games this season and fans can click HERE for more information on the event.
