Jose Altuve sparks Astros’ big first inning with leadoff homer

The Brewers had mostly kept José Altuve quiet at the plate this series, but he jumped the first pitch that Brewers starter Colin Rea threw in the afternoon for a leadoff homer to tie the game at 1. was Altuve’s 37th career leadoff homer.

This was just the beginning for the Astros. Yordan Alvarez doubled with one out, Rea walked the next two to load the bases, Jon Singleton drove in a run with a groundout that included a diving stop by Brice Turang, then Jake Meyers doubled to right to plate two and crown the rally.

The Astros lead 4-1 and Rea has thrown 29 pitches.

Brice Turang breaks his helmet and scores a point

Brice Turang’s batting helmet lived a good life, but he went and landed with his helmet in the sky during the first inning on Sunday. He saw his tenure as an MLB helmet come to an end when Turang stole third base with one out and was hit by Astros catcher Victor Caratini’s throw. His legacy continued when Christian Yelich followed with a single against a no-hitter infield to score Turang, a run that otherwise would not have scored without the stolen base.
