10 Sindh Police officers suspended over corruption allegations

KARACHI: A total of 10 officers and policemen of the Special Protection Unit of Sindh Police have been suspended for their alleged involvement in multi-crore corruption, ARY News reported on Saturday.

Sindh Police Additional Inspector General (AIG) Khadim Hussain has suspended 10 SPU officers and policemen for alleged involvement in corruption and directed them to report to B Company.

According to sources, the action was taken by the authorities after an undercover investigation by the ministry revealed that the SPU officials and the police officer were allegedly involved in abuse of authority and corruption.

In addition, the suspended officials are also accused of misusing the official vehicles specially provided for the CPEC project.

The suspended officers included an inspector named Mohammad Faheem and the Sukkur police chief.

Sources further added that Saddam Hussain in the DIG SPU office is also accused of corruption while three officials posted at CPEC Tharparkar have also been suspended and directed to report B Company for alleged abuse of power.

Earlier in March, the Sindh government transferred and appointed scores of deputy inspector generals (DIGs) of police as part of another major reshuffle in the department.

According to details, Irfan Baloch has been appointed as DIG West while Ahmed Nawaz Cheema has been appointed as DIG Traffic. Similarly, Iqbal Dar has been appointed as DIG of Driving License Department while Javed Jaskani has been named DIG Mirpurkhas.

On March 16, the Sindh government announced a major reshuffle of the Sindh Police and transferred several SSPs from different districts.

According to the notification, SSPs of Sukkur, Khairpur, Badin, Thatta, Sujaeal, Sanghar, Naushehro Feroz, Ghotki, Tando Muhammad Khan, Jacobabad and other districts have been transferred and posted with immediate effect. Hazeez Rehman Bugti has been transferred and posted as SSP Karachi West deputy Shad Ibne Masih.
