Great Point Studios officially opens in Buffalo

Buffalo, New York (WBEN) – After years of planning, Great Point Studios finally opened its doors after a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday.

This $50 million, 20,000 square foot state-of-the-art studio offers everything that allows local and world-renowned filmmakers to produce high-quality content.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown describes the facilities as an incredible opportunity for the city to stand out in the world of cinema.

“This is a huge addition to the arts in the city of Buffalo. The opening of Great Point Studios will enhance our city’s reputation as a film destination,” Brown said during the ceremony. “Buffalo has a tradition of creativity and innovation. Great Point Studios will play a major role in helping Buffalo become one of the county’s most sought-after film destinations.”

After the ceremony, award-winning television writer Tom Fontana said having a site is a valuable tool for the community and enhances the creativity of filmmakers by providing them with the necessary tools.

“I think it inspires all of us to make the films and TV shows that we’re passionate about. When you know you have a space that will protect you and take care of you, it gives you a real sense of security once that you start filming,” Fontana said in an interview with WBEN.

Casting director and co-founder of Casting Buffalo, Kyle Mecca, was also at the ceremony Thursday, saying Great Point Studios would be a hub for attracting actors to Buffalo.

“We’re that conduit that helps attract local talent from here to Central New York and beyond to be able to get on that stage,” Mecca said. “We have incredible relationships with the great players here in Buffalo, including the people who created this building. We are so excited to make this dream a reality for the cast and crew, and everything possible If you’re interested in a -today, be on this stage and act inside this scene, and be part of a movie here, go to castingbuffalo.com, be part of the movies.”
