Four dead as powerful storms hit Texas

At least four people were killed after powerful storms hit Houston and left nearly a million homes without power.

The Houston mayor’s office said Friday that four people had died following severe storms that blew out windows of high-rise buildings, downed trees and knocked out power to nearly 900,000 homes and businesses.

At least two of the deaths were caused by falling trees, and another occurred when a crane toppled over in high winds, authorities said.

Flash flood and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued in several counties, with damaging winds and even tornadoes possible in the evening, the National Weather Service office in Houston said.
