Houston Weather Recap: Deadly Storm Tracks

KHOU 11 Chief Meteorologist David Paul tells you what happened as a line of deadly storms moved through Houston on Thursday.

HOUSTON — A series of devastating thunderstorms moved through the Houston area Thursday evening, bringing a deadly blast of wind and rain.

KHOU 11 Chief Meteorologist David Paul took a look at exactly what happened as the severe weather spread across Southeast Texas.

“There’s no doubt that if you’ve lived in the heart of these winds, you’ve been through the equivalent of a Category 1, or even a Category 2, hurricane,” Paul said.

The path of the strongest winds began around 6 p.m. Thursday in the Cypress area. At 6:10 p.m., wind gusts of 79 mph were recorded there. Transmission lines were destroyed in the area.

At 6:26 p.m., wind gusts of 183 km/h were recorded in the Spring Branch area, where trees were toppled.

In the city center, windows were smashed on skyscrapers, leaving the streets below covered in broken glass due to winds recorded at 105 mph.
