Film crew finds woman shot near I-285 underpass, police investigate

Atlanta police are on the scene of the fatal shooting of a woman near an Interstate 285 underpass early Thursday morning.

SKYFOX 5 saw several police vehicles and the body of a woman on Harwell Road and Collier Drive near the highway.

The film crew stumbles upon a murderous scene in Atlanta

APD Lt. Andrew Smith said a film production crew found the body around 5:30 a.m. and alerted a police officer.

According to Smith, the woman was shot several times. Officers are working to identify the victim.

Investigators believe the shooting happened during a fight between the woman and the shooter at a nearby bus station. The shooter reportedly fled on foot.

Homicide detectives blocked the road as they combed the area for evidence.

Woman killed along Collier Drive identified

Friends and co-workers of a woman shot and killed early Thursday on Collier Drive identify her as Area Barnett.

She was only 25 years old, according to the Fulton County medical examiner’s office.

Her co-workers say she worked at Walmart off Cascade Road and took the bus to work every morning.

Police said her body was found near a bus stop on Collier Drive around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

“She was a down-to-earth person. She would never hurt anyone, and she was always silly, clumsy, just to herself, she never bothered anyone, never did anything to anyone. She was the life of the party. I don’t, I know, it doesn’t make sense,” said Tatiana Fannin, the victim’s girlfriend.

Police closed part of the road early Thursday as part of their investigation. “Based on what we know right now, there was an altercation at the bus stop that resulted in his death,” Lt. Smith said.

FOX 5 spoke with his colleagues Thursday afternoon.

“I was her manager. She worked very hard,” Kintavion Martin said. “She was supposed to work today. She did a no call no show, which is very strange of her because usually when she can’t make it, she calls but she wasn’t there at all , and it was around the same time that his body was found.

People who knew Barnett say they want justice.

“We’re going to make sure we get justice for her because she doesn’t deserve this. She’s loved too much,” Fannin said. “I love you, Area. Your name will stay forever.”

Police have not announced any arrests or information on suspects. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Atlanta Crime Stoppers.
