Tommy Cowan, owner of Doc Sullivan’s and Forty Thieves, has died

Tommy Cowan, a Buffalo restaurateur who owned popular restaurants and bars such as Doc Sullivan’s, Forty Thieves and Patrick’s Rooftop, has died.

Tributes to Cowan, a South Buffalo native, have poured in on social media as people remember him as a generous and supportive friend and a “Buffalo legend.”

Its restaurants, Forty Thieves Kitchen & Bar (727 Elmwood Ave.) and Doc Sullivan’s (474 ​​Abbott Road), are closed until further notice.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that we are closed until further notice,” Doc Sullivan’s wrote on Instagram. “We appreciate all of everyone’s support during this heartbreaking time.”
