Buffalo woman arrested after toddler found in feces-covered cage

A Buffalo woman was arrested earlier this year for caging her 2-year-old child.

On February 8, the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation executed an arrest warrant for a prior crime against 24-year-old Naesha Lumpkin.

At the residence, investigators found a 2-year-old boy in a makeshift cage consisting of a playpen covered with a piece of crib attached on three sides and the top, not allowing the child to move get up or out of park. .

The cage and child were covered in human feces and the child and bedding were soaked in urine.

Investigators on scene contacted Erie County Child Protective Services and American Medical Response for medical assistance.

The 2-year-old was taken to Oishei Children’s Hospital, where he had bruises on his face and body. The toddler also had two healing fractured ribs, meaning the fractures likely occurred 10 to 14 days before the child was found, according to police.

Lumpkin was arrested for child endangerment. Asked about the toddler’s injuries, she said the child fell down the stairs but did not seek professional medical assistance.

Lumpkin was ticketed to appear in Buffalo Municipal Court on February 12.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation was assisted by the Erie County Prosecutor’s Office and no updated charges will be filed at this time, according to New York State Police.
