Investigators with the Falls Police Crash Management Unit announced Wednesday evening that they are continuing their investigation into the cause of a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Niagara Falls Boulevard and 80th Street.

The accident, which occurred around 10:22 a.m. Wednesday, involved a Falls Police cruiser and two other vehicles.

Investigators said police cruiser No. 81, marked “Falls,” was traveling east on Niagara Falls Boulevard and responded to a dispatch call in “emergency mode” with its vehicle lights on and flashing. As the patrol car ran a red light at the 80th Street intersection, it crashed into a 2010 Nissan that had also entered the intersection heading north.

The force of the impact threw the patrol car into a 2016 Jeep that was traveling west.

The driver of the patrol car, Officer Kyle Bond, an 8-year veteran of the force, and the 86-year-old driver of the Nissan were taken by ambulance to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for evaluation. Both were later released after being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Jeep, a 44-year-old man, was examined at the scene for injuries and did not receive treatment.

Police said the patrol cruiser was likely a “total loss.”

Niagara Falls Boulevard was closed to traffic between 79th and 81st streets for several hours while incident management officials conducted their investigation.
