Buffalo Bills could reunite with veteran pass rusher

The Buffalo Bills have undergone some major changes during the 2024 NFL offseason. Looking to get their salary cap situation under control, the team has moved on from several veterans, such as trading Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans.

This left the team shorthanded in some areas. The focus has been on the weapons around quarterback Josh Allen, as the Bills have reshuffled his supporting cast. Along with Diggs, Gabe Davis is also gone, replaced by Curtis Samuel, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and rookie Keon Coleman.

With so much focus on the offensive side of the ball, people have forgotten that the Buffalo Bills could use some help on defense as well. In the opinion of Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report, the team’s biggest need lies in the pass-rushing department.

To solve this problem, Ballentine suggested the team look to bring back a familiar face; veteran Jerry Hughes. Hughes spent nine seasons with the Buffalo Bills from 2013 to 2021 before spending two seasons with the Texans.

“The defense will open a new chapter in 2024,” Ballentine wrote. “Several veteran starters are gone, but the Bills have done a good job targeting affordable interim options. That being said, they could still use depth at two of the most important positions. Bringing back Jerry Hughes would be a cheap way to give them some depth.

Hughes would be a solid addition as a rotational pass rusher for the Buffalo Bills. They need help to replace the production lost with the departure of Leonard Floyd and questions remain about Von Miller’s impact.

There’s still something left in the tank, as Hughes has accumulated 12.0 sacks and 13 hits over the past two seasons. He would provide the Buffalo Bills with some insurance behind Miller, Greg Rousseau, AJ Epenesa and Duwaune Smoot.
