Buffalo woman pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter of boyfriend

A Buffalo woman has pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, admitting to stabbing her boyfriend to death last year.

Teiyahna Bivens, 22, pleaded guilty to the crime Tuesday before Judge Susan Eagan in Erie County Court.

Bivens stabbed Micqueal Rogers, 23, in the chest with a knife on July 23, 2023, around 5 p.m., in the area of ​​Gerhardt and Northampton streets, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said. Rogers died from his injury a short time later at Erie County Medical Center.

Buffalo police arrested Bivens for first-degree manslaughter the day after the stabbing.

Bivens was allowed to plead guilty to a reduced charge with the consent of the victim’s family and on the condition that she waive her right to a hearing to argue that she was a victim of domestic violence and should to receive a reduced sentence, serving in the Erie County District. Attorney Michael J. Keane said.

Bivens faces a maximum of 15 years in prison when she is sentenced July 30. She remains free on $200,000 bail.
