For the third straight season, the Falcons went 7-10 in 2023, leading to the firing of coach Arthur Smith and a new chapter at the quarterback position. Despite this commitment to Cousins, the Falcons stunned the NFL world by selecting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth pick in the April NFL Draft.
