Tesla lays off 27 more employees at South Buffalo factory

Tesla Inc. will lay off 27 additional employees at its South Buffalo factory, according to a notice the company filed with the state Department of Labor.

Tesla cuts 26 more jobs at Buffalo factory after ending Supercharger work

The latest job cuts, in addition to 285 positions cut at the local factory in reductions announced last month, represent only a modest portion of the 500 jobs Tesla is cutting company-wide in disbanding its supercharging activities.

The company cited “economic” reasons for the layoffs in the notice.

Tesla filed four separate layoff notices this month, the first of which was dated May 3. The four notices forecast a total of 60 layoffs in August.

These cuts are in addition to the 285 layoffs announced in mid-April, for a combined total of 345 cuts.

According to the series of notices filed with the Department of Labor, the layoffs would reduce Tesla’s employment at the RiverBend factory to fewer than 2,000 employees.

One of the 27 workers laid off in the latest notice works at a Tesla gallery and service center across the street from the factory.
