Jason Carter says his grandfather Jimmy Carter is ‘nearing the end’

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Former President Jimmy Carter’s grandson says the nation’s 39th president is “doing fine” but is nearing the end.

At the 28th Annual Rosalynn Carter Mental Health Forum in Georgia, Jason Carter said he was in Plains, Ga., two weeks ago and watched an Atlanta Braves game with his Nobel Peace Prize-winning grandfather.

“I told him people ask me how you’re doing, and I don’t know,” Jason Carter said. “He said, ‘Well, I don’t know either.'”

The former president entered hospice care more than a year ago in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. He has since celebrated his 99th birthday last October and attended the annual peanut festival, which celebrates the region’s cash crop.

He also mourned the loss of his wife, Rosalynn Carter, who died in November at the age of 96. To date, this is Jimmy Carter’s last public appearance.

A presidential historian wore a tie that represented all the presidents of the United States.

In late May, the Carter Center announced that Ms. Carter was suffering from dementia. The announcement came months after the center announced that Jimmy Carter was entering hospice care.

October 17, 2019, after married 26,765 daysJimmy and Rosalynn Carter became the longest-serving presidential couple in history (George HW Bush and Barbara Bush previously held the record).

The couple had been married for 77 years.

Last week, Jason Carter said the former Georgia governor recently voted absentee for Georgia’s May 21 primary, emphasizing that his grandfather wouldn’t miss an election.
