Township Manager Jolene Helwig reviewed a 902 recycling grant application for potential reimbursement for the grinder. She explained that she was asked to increase the cost of the grant by 10% in case prices, which would bring the total grant amount to $391,640.

The grant is a 90/10 match. The supervisors requested $200,000 for the first round and will be awarded the difference once the next round opens.

Grants awarded will be announced in July.

In 2023, the supervisors applied for a Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) grant for greenways, trails and recreation for the Turtle Creek Park restoration project, but were rejected.

“DCED likes to spread its money around,” said Supervisor Chairman Jim Knight.

He suggested applying for several smaller grants to increase the chances of getting the funding.

“My suggestion would be to not request the full 50% match for the DCNR grant, but a lower percentage, and the township can then provide matching funds, whereas we could potentially apply for a Degenstein grant for the matching funds. counterparties remaining, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,” Knight suggested.

Supervising Vice President Tom Zorn and Knight came to the conclusion that 35% would be required to move forward with Phase I of Turtle Creek Park. If approved, the township’s contribution would amount to approximately $80,900.

Supervisors have until May 31 to submit their application.

Supervisors also approved the use of liquid fuel allocations as collateral for a Pennsylvania Infrastructure Bank (PIB) loan that will be used to help replace the Turtle Creek Bridge that was destroyed after a severe storm in August 2023.

According to Helwig, offering liquid fuel funds as collateral speeds up the approval process.

Supervisor Katie Evans received approval to sign the Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Office of Environmental Protection’s wastewater planning resolution for the new land use planning inspection of the Bucknell University West Student Housing Project.

The PennDOT agility letter of agreement has been renewed by supervisors. The program provides a streamlined method for municipalities to work with PennDOT through agreements in which services are exchanged for services in a cost-effective method.

Over the past five years, PennDOT determined the township has completed approximately $15,000 worth of work for PennDOT. The renewal extends the agreement by three years.

Supervisors approved Edgmont’s five-lot subdivision plan in April 2020. However, Classic Quality Homes Vice President Steve Wengerd admitted to forgetting to release the recorded plans and agreements for stormwater and financial guarantee before the start of the process.

Classic Quality Homes will have 90 days from May 13 to provide the registered agreement and plans subject to the provision of a $99,300 letter of credit for the installation of the stormwater treatment facilities.

A community work day to complete the walk along the Turtle Creek Park hiking trail will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 18.

The township purchased eight benches for a total of $228 and a picnic table for a total of $441 through donations for the restoration of Turtle Creek Park.

An environmental studies and science group from Bucknell University began construction of the boardwalk in April to keep the section safe as it became extremely muddy.

Bucknell University will host the 2024 “Stamped” 5K from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on June 14.

The exhibition center is closed until August due to renovations.
