“Buffalo Bills hire former NFL referee away from ESPN”. here’s why

The Buffalo Bills are making a lot of noise signing in mid-May, but it’s not for a free agent player.

According to the New York Post, the Bills are hiring former NFL referee John Parry away from ESPN to be their liaison. Syracuse.com has since confirmed the news.

In an interview with Football Zebras this weekend, Parry said he was joining an NFL team.

“Officials view the game differently than players, coaches and fans. » Parry told Football Zebras.

“So to have someone (in the cab): Hey, this is the mechanic, this is why this person made this call. And no matter what happens to this replay, if they turn it over, this is where the ball will be spotted. Here is the descending distance (and). The timer will start during the ready-to-play period, or it’s a 10-second second round, so you can take a timeout. So you better start thinking about it, will you get one? Is not it ?

Parry had been an ESPN rules analyst on Monday Night Football before being hired by the Bills. Prior to his time at ESPN, Parry was an NFL official from 2000 to 2018.

The hire is a brilliant move by the Bills.

In his new role, Parry is expected to give Buffalo’s coaching staff feedback on replay decisions and rules. His knowledge of the rules and what officials look for during replays should provide Buffalo with the data needed to make better decisions in the game.

“There’s so much on coaches’ shoulders when it comes to replay specifically because it’s grown so much and it’s complicated. It’s difficult to keep all this data properly,” Parry told Football Zebras.
