Buffalo man pleads guilty to murdering stepfather

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A 41-year-old Buffalo man pleaded guilty before a state Supreme Court judge in Erie County Court to fatally injuring his ex-wife’s father.

Mohammed Mia pleaded guilty to one count of first degree manslaughter, which was the full satisfaction of the indictment against himself.

In October 2021, Erie County investigators said Mia violated an existing protection order and illegally entered his estranged wife’s home in the city of Buffalo.

While inside the house, Mia slapped, punched and strangled the ex-wife while making threats. He also attacked his parents when they tried to intervene during the attack. The ex-wife’s father was punched and kicked several times after being thrown to the ground.

Mia fled the scene in her car, while her estranged wife called 911 for her unconscious father. The father was taken by ambulance to ECMC with severe head trauma, and both women were treated for cuts, bruises and broken teeth.

Later that day, Mia had gone to the District E police station to report that he had been assaulted, but was himself arrested.

Three days after suffering the attack, the father of the ex-wife died from his injuries.

Mohammed Mia faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison when he returns for sentencing on June 26. Until then, he will be held without bail and orders of protection have been issued on behalf of the surviving victims.
