Doctors in Anambra suspend strike and call on Soludo to declare security emergency

The NMA announced the men’s return to their posts in a statement on Sunday, saying the decision followed Ezeh’s release from captivity on Saturday.

The declaration was signed by Dr. Princeton Okam And Dr. Ifeanyi Obiaeliits chairman or secretary.

The association appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to declare a state of security emergency in Anambra as increasing insecurity and kidnappings were paralyzing the economy and health services in the state.

The NMA instructed its members to resume clinical care to the public at their various facilities on Sunday and thanked all those who contributed in any way to Ezeh’s release.

“The total and indefinite strike called by the Anambra branch of NMA in protest against the abduction of our member, Dr. Stephen Ezeh, is hereby called off upon his release. Clinical services will resume on Sunday, August 25, at 8:00 a.m.

“We thank the good people of Anambra for their patience during these difficult times and pray that this emergency will not be repeated.

“We thank our colleagues for their solidarity and tenacity in the face of the challenges facing the sector, particularly in the security area, and urge them to remain determined and committed to providing healthcare to the people of Anambra.“ it was said.

The doctors called on the public, security agencies, professional associations and businesses to join hands with the governor for a peaceful, safe and healthy Anambra.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ezeh was kidnapped in Ihiala on August 15, prompting the NMA to call on its members to stop working on August 22, after issuing a 48-hour ultimatum.
