“Don’t let the stats discourage you,” Loza said. “You have the right to just cheer for the players you’re excited about.”

So if there’s a player who is incredible strategically, but you don’t feel like supporting him every week, don’t draft him – that’s the benefit of having such depth in the league.

And with all these options, Loza encourages everyone to use the rankings available. “My colleagues and I don’t spend all this time making rankings so you can’t use them,” she says.

So if someone has caught your eye, check the rankings to make sure you pick them at the right time.

“If you’re someone who’s like, ‘Oh, I know player X is a really good player and he’s fun and I’m interested in him,’ then look at where he’s at in the rankings, like if he’s a 30th receiver, and then see who else in that range is going to go there and circle them,” Loza said. “Just say, ‘OK, when we get to that general portion of the draft, I’m going to take that guy.’”

This way, you won’t miss out on valuable talent while trying to select them.
