Gas prices drop as Memorial Day approaches

AAA says we could see gas prices remain relatively stable heading into Memorial Day weekend.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The national gasoline average fell 3 cents from last Monday, bringing the price at the pump to $3.62.

A year ago the price was $3.54. The New York state average is $3.72, down one cent from a week ago. A year ago, the average in New York was also $3.67. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:

  • Batavia – $3.63 (no change from last Monday)
  • Buffalo – $3.66 (up 1 cent from last Monday)
  • Elmira – $3.60 (down 4 cents from last Monday)
  • Ithaca – $3.70 (no change from last Monday)
  • Rochester – $3.69 (no change from last Monday)
  • Rome – $3.75 (no change from last Monday)
  • Syracuse – $3.69 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
  • Watertown – $3.76 (down 1 cent from last Monday)

In April, gas prices rose sharply, but May saw a decline.

According to AAA, “Oil prices remain in the range of $78 to $82 per barrel, showing little movement from a week ago, which has helped gas prices stabilize. Additionally, according to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand “

They also said that “diesel prices are falling. The national average diesel price is $3.93, down four cents from last Monday. New York’s average is $4.38, down a cent from a week ago.”
