Stian Gregersen scores twice with headers as Atlanta United beat Columbus Crew 2-1

ATLANTA — Stian Gregersen scored twice in the second half and Atlanta United rallied to beat the Columbus Crew 2-1 on Saturday night.

Columbus scored first when Diego Rossi netted a right-footed shot from the centre of the box in the 36th minute.

The team led 1-0 at halftime, then Gregersen set the tone for Atlanta in the second half, scoring twice with headers from Saba Lobjanidze’s corner.

Gregersen’s brace came after he missed Wednesday’s game against New York City after receiving a red card in an earlier game against Montreal.

Columbus lost despite holding a 65-35 advantage in possession and 593-256 in total passes. However, Atlanta led 6-3 in shots on goal.

MLS is now taking a break from its regular season, with the All-Star Game in Columbus on July 24 and the annual Leagues Cup running from July 26 to August 25.

Columbus (12-4-7) sits third in the Eastern Conference at halftime. Twelfth-place Atlanta (7-11-7) is two points out of a tie for eighth.
