Free Weatherhead Replacements Provided by CenterPoint After Hurricane Beryl

Free Weatherhead Replacements Provided by CenterPoint After Hurricane Beryl

The City of Houston is notifying residents of the possibility of replacing broken windshields for free.

This comes 10 days after Hurricane Beryl hit the region.

The Weatherhead is the point where the line enters the home through a pipe, and if it is damaged the customer will need to repair it before service can be restored.

At Wednesday’s City Council meeting, Mayor pro-temp Martha Castex-Tatum announced that CenterPoint is working with Houston Habitat for Humanity to replace storm surge barriers free of charge. That should help restore power more quickly for those with downed equipment.

“Initially, we were told that an impediment was a landlord expense, but in this situation, Habitat is working to repair those impediments so Centerpoint can restore power to those properties,” Castex-Tatum said.

If you live in Houston and need to replace your Weatherhead, email your name, address and phone number to [email protected] to get the process started.

CenterPoint representatives also released the following statement:

“Centerpoint Energy is working with local nonprofits with whom we have long-standing relationships to help us identify disadvantaged customers who suffered damage to Weatherheads from Hurricane Beryl. Local electricians who are part of the homeserve® network of contractors will perform the repair work at no cost to the customer. To qualify for this free service, homeowners must live in a “disadvantaged community” as outlined in the justice40 initiative. The nonprofits involved in this program include: Habitat for Humanity, Vision Galveston, Rebuilding Together Houston, United Way Brazoria and the Tejano Center.”
