Houston Humane Society Offers Free Pet Care in Cleveland

On Thursday, July 18, the Houston Humane Society came to Cleveland to offer free pet vaccines, kibble, and a six-month supply of flea medication to hundreds of animals. The event was held at the Sanctuary Church, which kindly provided the space.

The event was co-hosted by the 6th P Constable’s Office. Constable Zack Harkness and a few of his deputies were on hand to help manage traffic and meet with local residents throughout the event, which was extended by three hours due to demand.

The event was co-sponsored by Petco Love and Greater Good Charities.

People started lining up early Thursday morning. By the time the event began at 9 a.m., the church parking lot was full and the line of vehicles stretched around the block. It showed how much people needed and appreciated the help.

In addition to the vaccines, the pets received a six-month supply of flea medication. This event was intended to help pet owners who may already be struggling due to Hurricane Beryl and other weather events. This was not an income-based vaccination clinic, so anyone who attended was eligible.

The community has been very appreciative of the Houston Humane Society’s efforts. Events like this help ensure that animals stay healthy and well-fed, and they show the importance of making veterinary care accessible to all.

“Everybody that was in line and stayed in line got pet food. We were out of vaccines, but there were at least 110 dogs and at least 50 cats that got vaccinated,” Constable Harkness said. “This was our third event and our second vaccination event. I plan on reaching out to them in a couple of weeks and seeing if we can do another event in Cleveland.”
