The Houston Texans have already released a player they drafted in April.

Last April, Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio selected nine players in the 2024 NFL Draft. Although the Texans did not have a first-round pick this year due to the trade of Will Anderson Jr. last year, Houston came out of the draft process feeling like it had strengthened an already good team.

Of course, none of the prospects have had the chance to fulfill their dream of playing in an NFL game yet, but soon, the Texans will begin training camp on July 23. Unfortunately, one of the players Caserio drafted in April will not be joining them.

Wednesday’s NFL transaction wire showed the Texans waived/released three players from their 90-man roster. One of them was seventh-round rookie LaDarius Henderson, who was drafted 249th overall last April out of Michigan.

Drafted rookies are rarely released before the start of training camp, but this situation is a little more unusual than the average. The 6-foot-4, 309-pound lineman was actually released due to what is being described as a non-football injury.

KPRC’s Aaron Wilson is now reporting that Henderson has suffered a foot injury and will undergo surgery Thursday. It’s unclear how long Henderson’s setback will keep him off the football field, but given that the Texans have already cut ties, it’s possible he could have to undergo season-ending surgery.

Fortunately, Henderson is only 22, so he will have plenty of time to get his football career back on track once he is presumably recovered.
