During a flood, watch for Mother’s Day in the Houston area

A flood watch will begin this morning at 7 a.m. and will remain in place for the next 24 hours for Madison, Houston, Trinity, San Jacinto and Walker counties. We are tracking another 2-4″ of rain with showers of 6″ in some areas. The threat of flooding also comes with the risk of severe thunderstorms that could produce hail and damaging winds.

Sunday 9 a.m.:

We’re following a line of severe storms north of us in areas like Waco to Lufkin. Also tracking scattered showers in areas south of I-10 near Damon, Liverpool, Santa Fe, near Trinity Bay and Galveston.

Sunday 12 p.m.:

Followed by widespread rain over the majority of the viewing area with heavier rain between I-45 and I-10 near Galveston and Trinity Bay.

Sunday 1:30 p.m.

We are still tracking widespread rain with a chance of thunderstorms in Houston between I-610.

Sunday 5 p.m.:

We’re still tracking widespread rain with a more severe weather threat in areas like Conroe, Huntsville and Kingwood.

Sunday 7:30 a.m.

We’re still following widespread rain with more severe weather in areas like Brenham, Bryan, Crockett, Huntsville and Lufkin.

Sunday night:

Storms will continue to track southeast, bringing heavy downpours, strong winds and the potential for hail. Storms will continue to track behind the mainline, primarily north of I-10.

Monday storms continue:

Monday sees widespread showers and storms continue, with some threatening to be heavy to severe.

Sunday and Monday rain totals could reach 2″ to 4″, exceptions will be northeast of I-10 where communities could reach 6″ or more if we see training storms (storms move several times on the same area). At the opposite end, near the coast, it might be difficult to touch an inch.
