Yellow alert ended: rain showers and thunderstorms possible on Wednesday

ROCHESTER, NY – The Amber Warning for our area has expired after a relatively eventful morning and early afternoon. A low-level disturbance brought another round of severe weather as it moved through Western New York. Tornado warnings remained in effect east of our area, but some damage reports of downed trees were still being reported in Macedon as well as northeastern Wayne County.

Skies will continue to clear into Tuesday evening, but dew point temperatures will remain above 18 degrees before a more widespread cold front moves through the area in the late morning to afternoon hours on Wednesday. No severe weather is expected with this frontal passage, but showers and storms are expected in the Finger Lakes region by early afternoon, with precipitation beginning in the western Finger Lakes by early afternoon. Scattered showers are still expected north of the Finger Lakes into Monroe County. Thunderstorms are possible, but we will not see anything like the severe weather that has been repeated over the past week.

This stormy pattern and humidity will disappear after the passage of this cold front, as cooler temperatures and drier weather return to the region on Thursday with comfortable dew points around 10 degrees. Highs will be slightly below average on Thursday and Friday, with highs around 25 degrees in the wake of this cold front. More seasonal temperatures and plenty of sunshine return over the weekend, which will be very conducive to outdoor activities.
