4th Annual Give 716 to Support 500+ WNY Charities

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Back for its fourth year, Give 716 aims to showcase how the greater Buffalo area is coming together.

The Buffalo Bills Foundation and the Buffalo Sabres Foundation are partnering to address urgent needs facing more than 500 charities.

The online donation event starts Monday at 7:16pm and runs until Tuesday at 11:59pm. This is a 36-hour window with the hope that you can give back.

JoAnna Jacob, Director of Institutional Development at Explore & More, said the museum was raising funds through the Give 716 campaign.

“We’re very grateful to the Bills and the Sabres for putting this on every year,” she said.

Jacob said the money donated to the museum this year will benefit the “Community Treehouse” exhibit.

“The Treehouse is one of our most popular exhibits,” Jacob said.

Not long ago, the treehouse was damaged when the fire suppression system malfunctioned, forcing them to close the exhibit.

“The kids are looking for the treehouse! So we definitely need the community’s support to expand and improve it,” Jacob said. “We want to see this treehouse rebuilt and stay up. It’s a place of remembrance for these families and we want to make sure it’s up again for everyone.”

Lindsey Taylor, director of development for the Buffalo Police Athletic League (PAL), said the group is also one of hundreds of organizations you can support.

“When you know that we’re able to run these types of campaigns that actually benefit us in a discretionary way, we can go beyond what we’re just doing with this program,” Taylor said.

Taylor said the program aims to build relationships between the 20,000 children it serves and law enforcement.

“One of the things they can also see is police officers who look like them, who are within their reach, who come into the communities and really support them, whether it’s through mentoring or showing them how to shoot basketball or hockey,” he said.

Taylor said every small donation given through Give 716 supports PAL’s mission.

“And that really helps us continue to serve our community as a whole,” he said.
