Man charged after Buffalo crash

Demetrius Ferguson Jr., 19, of Buffalo, was driving a Ford Explorer that matched the description of a vehicle linked to a double shooting, the spokesman said.

When police attempted to stop the vehicle around 5:30 p.m., the driver sped north on Niagara Street, ran a red light and collided with a vehicle on Virginia Street. The SUV then struck another vehicle before hitting a curb, rolling over and hitting a fence.

Ferguson had to be extricated and taken to Erie County Medical Center. No further details on the type or severity of his injuries were provided. Two firefighters were injured during the extrication and were taken to Erie County Medical Center.

A 30-year-old Williamsville man, who was driving one of the other vehicles, was also taken to ECMC with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

According to court records, Ferguson was charged with second-degree fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was also ticketed for running a red light.

According to court documents, Ferguson is scheduled to be arraigned in Buffalo City Court on July 31.
