Northern Lights in Georgia | Great photos for the second night

ATLANTA — The Northern Lights are back in the Georgia sky tonight!

Viewers from across metro Atlanta and northern Georgia are sending in their photos of the bright red, purple and green lights that create an incredible phenomenon rarely seen this far south.

Indeed, there is a G5 geomagnetic storm sighting across the United States on Friday, the first time it has happened here since 2003. Also known officially as the Northern Lights, the Northern Lights are most commonly found in high latitude regions such as the Arctic. and Antarctica.

This solar storm exceeded the Space Weather Prediction Center’s initial predictions and the Northern Lights were spotted in Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina.
