The storm stayed away during the afternoon, and it turned out to be a perfect day at the lake.

Many families joined Buffalo Point’s annual Buffalo Days celebration, which runs all weekend.

Lee Green and Debbie Sexmith brought the idea of Buffalo Days to Chief and Council nine years ago and it is now a well-known family fun day in the Buffalo community.

Sexsmith explains why they decided to start Buffalo Days.

“It’s an opportunity to build community, bring people together, have fun and meet your neighbor.”

The event continues to grow and Green says they have about 70 volunteers this year.

“In nine years we have grown from a team of three people to a team of volunteers and people from the surrounding area. So it is a success and a good organisation,” says Sexmith.

She continues: “Each event was a little bit smaller, but each time the principle was the same. We added a few different events each year as we had more participants, more volunteers, and the word got out. Each year the project got stronger and better.”

She says the community marks the event on its calendar every year because they don’t want to miss it.

“The people at our campsite make sure their families and grandchildren come and spend the weekend.”

Today was filled with lots of family activities and fun including bouncy castles, games, a petting zoo, face painting, barrel rides and much more.

Sexsmith extends a warm thank you to the wonderful Buffalo Point community who make the event possible.

“This was only possible thanks to the commitment of the entire community and volunteers, it makes all the difference.”

She says they are already looking forward to next year!

“Next year marks our 10th anniversary, so expect big things next year.”
