NBA trade idea sends two-time NBA All-Star to Atlanta Hawks

NBA trade idea sends two-time NBA All-Star to Atlanta Hawks

While the Chicago Bulls are struggling to find a suitor for Zach LaVine, they already let go of DeMar DeRozan in a sign-and-trade deal with the Sacramento Kings. Chicago also sent Alex Caruso to the OKC Thunder and could also look to move two-time All-Star Nikola Vucevic.

In a recent article by Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, a hypothetical trade of Vucevic to the Atlanta Hawks was proposed, swapping the two-time All-Star with Clint Capela.

“The Hawks could choose to trade their players, but they could delay a total dismantling since they don’t have control of their next three first-round picks,” Buckley wrote. “So they could try to reshape the roster around Trae Young, trading Capela, a much more talented offensive center, Vučević, plus Phillips, who was last year’s 35th pick and a future lottery-protected first-rounder.”

It remains to be seen exactly what direction the Hawks will go this summer, having already traded Dejounte Murray. Vucevic is an imperfect player, but he could give Young a new look, something Buckley pointed out.

“Having a pick-and-pop threat like Vučević could give Young even more breathing room,” Buckley wrote. “It would also help differentiate this center rotation, as the Hawks would have one center for offense and finesse (Vučević) and one for defense and athleticism (Onyeka Okongwu). Adding a stretch piece at center would also give last season’s star Jalen Johnson even more breathing room and hopefully accelerate his development.”
