Hartsfield-Jackson leads nation in ‘gun detections’ in first half of 2024, TSA says

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The world’s busiest airport also leads the United States in a more dubious statistic in the first half of 2024, according to the TSA.

Hartsfield-Jackson leads the nation in gun detections, with 222, according to the agency. The agency said the airport screened 14,989,505 passengers.

Airport security detected 214 firearms during 13,431,584 checks carried out during the same period last year.

The TSA says a firearm was found for every 65,828 passengers screened at Georgia airports, more than double the national average.

Nationally, 443.1 million passengers were screened in the first six months of the year, a 7% increase from last year.

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines posted record revenue in the second quarter of 2024, but its profits fell by more than a quarter.
